Define the gap before the design

A custom project is strongest when the team can describe what the current package is not doing well enough.

The gap might be structural, operational or functional. It might involve how the package fits the filling process, how the closure works, how much product it needs to hold, or how a new product category is meant to be handled.

Translate the problem into a packaging brief

Before tooling is discussed, the LP and packaging partner should align on the product, intended format, required capacity, material constraints, closure requirements, regulatory documentation, production process, forecast volume and any printing or colour needs.

That brief creates a common definition of success.

Design close to the market
